Campaign Leaflet

In response to Leicester City Council's Consultation and Information Booklet, thePutney Road Say Nocampaign group have put together aCampaign Leafletthat has been delivered to properties in and around Clarendon Park:

This outlines:
  • how the project will affect you
  • what action you can take
  • how to get involved in the campaign (if you want to)

There's not enough space to explain everything on the Campaign Leaflet, so we've put together this web site to provide the detail behind the leaflet.

To show your support for this campaign, please display the leaflet in your window.

Road Map

We've adapted the council's map of the Putney Road to illustrate some of the headline problems with this scheme:

Other community groups

End of the Road (EOTR)

A major concern with the Putney Road link, in addition to the direct impact it will have, is that it facilitates the much-discussed Evesham Road link. Another campaign group called End of the Road LE3 are opposing the Putney Road link on this basis. Here are a couple of quotations from the council's funding bid:

"The Putney Road West project would provide the following benefits:
d) Provide preparatory work if the Evesham Road link (new vehicular bridge over River Soar and canal) proceeds in the future"

"Leicester City Council is considering a future scheme whereby Evesham Road would be extended to provide a direct link (new vehicular bridge over River Soar and canal) between the A426 Aylestone Road and the A5460 Narborough Road and M1/J21."

"The Putney Road link would greatly enhance the viability of building the Evesham Road link."

The End of the Road campaign group are concerned enough about the Putney Road link to have printed and distributed their own flyer and briefing paper in the Evesham Road area:

Aylestone Park Leicester (APL)

The first issue of the community newsletter for the residents of Atlestone Park carries an editorial on the East-West Link Road:

Leicester Civic Society (LCS)

The APL newsletter also features an item from Leicester Civic Society giving their views on the Putney Road and Evesham Road links:

Stoneygate Conservation Area Society (SCAS)

In their submission, Stoneygate Conservation Area Society express their concerns about the Putney Road link including increased traffic on Victoria Park Road, the likelihood of a link up with Evesham Road and better ways of spending the money:
